Chevy/GMC Duramax

Beginning in 2001, heavy-duty Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks and vans have been equipped with Duramax diesel engines. A joint effort between GM and Isuzu, the Duramax V8 competes directly with the Ford Powerstroke and Dodge Cummins.
Since its release, the Duramax has remained at a displacement of 6.6 Liters. The Duramax engine has been paired with an Allison Transmission since it entered production. There are six generations of the Duramax engine, the LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML/LGH, and the L5P.


In general, GM heavy-duty trucks are reliable, the durability of Allison Transmissions is superior to those found in Ford and Dodge’s diesel trucks.
