WHY BOTHER SERVICING YOUR DIFFERENTIAL?

WHY BOTHER SERVICING YOUR DIFFERENTIAL?

And for that matter, what is a differential? Power from your engine is transferred to the wheels through the differential. When you go around corners, the differential keeps power going to both wheels evenly without any hop-, skip-, or jump-ing. So this is a pretty important part of your car or truck, as you can imagine. Gear oil is the life-blood of your differential in pickup trucks and rear wheel drive cars.  Good, clean gear oil keeps the bearings and gears from overheating and over-wearing. As the gear oil ages it loses its ability to lubricate and excess wear is the result. The picture above illustrates perfectly what can happen when the gear oil is neglected. The round, fuzzy shape near the top of the picture is the magnet. It has quite a collection of metal fragments from the bearings and gears. It won’t be long now before this diff is done. SHOULD I GET MY CAR SERVICED AT THE DEALER WHILE UNDER WARRANTY?

Warranties are a beautiful thing. They can offer you low cost peace of mind about your vehicle and they also keep you on a regular maintenance schedule. Since most mechanical defects are preventable, regularly scheduled maintenance is good for you, good for your car and excellent for your pocketbook. However, we do have a little bone to pick on where to schedule these appointments. MYTH: While Your Vehicle Is Under Warranty You Must Take It To The Dealership For Service Or You Will Risk Invalidating Your Warranty.FACT: Federal law prohibits this stipulation, in the interest of free trade economics, to prevent dealerships from creating a monopoly on new vehicle service. DO I NEED TO SERVICE MY TRANSMISSION?

DO I NEED TO SERVICE MY TRANSMISSION?

Customers often ask us if and when they should service their automatic transmission. The short answer…only service your transmission if you want it to last. The number one killer of automatic transmissions is heat. Your fluid is working hard all the time to get rid of the heat caused by normal driving conditions. However, as the fluid properties break down with miles and age, it no longer dissipates heat the way it should. That’s why it is so important to service your transmission regularly. The good news is that the service interval for your transmission is about 60,000 miles. We recommend having the first service done by 80,000 miles and then every 60k thereafter. What’s Involved in a Transmission Service? Every good service should start with a test drive. It’s important to know how the transmission is working before it gets worked on. At L ... read more

SAVE $4,000 ON YOUR NISSAN/INFINITI TRANSMISSION

SAVE $4,000 ON YOUR NISSAN/INFINITI TRANSMISSION

A common problem for the Nissan RE5R05A transmission is antifreeze getting into the transmission fluid. The radiator cooler for the transmission is prone to cross leaks in certain Nissan models (Pathfinder, Xterra, Armada, Frontier, Titan, and certain Infiniti models as well). Antifreeze is bad for the transmission for two reasons. First, the chemicals in antifreeze eat away at the clutch linings inside the trans. Second, in the RE5R05A trans, the computer is located inside the pan and is submerged in transmission fluid. These computer systems don’t mind being bathed in oil…but they do mind getting water in their circuits. The fix for this problem is a complete transmission rebuild with a new computer, which costs about $4000. The good news is that there is a simple way to prevent this problem from happening. To keep antifreeze out of the transmission fluid, you s ... read more
