Ford Powerstroke Service and Repair

The Ford Power Stroke diesel engine is a popular option in the F-Series line of trucks, as well as other Ford vehicles. The Power Stroke engine has been offered in a number of sizes, including 7.3L, 6.7L, 6.4L and 6.0L. Lake City Auto Care performs  repairs on all versions of the Powerstroke engine.

As a diesel engine, the Ford Power Stroke is respected for its strength and durability. These engines produce impressive torque ratings and can withstand thousands of miles of towing and hauling.

Our technicians have the skills needed to service and repair all generations of the Powerstroke engine. Typical maintenance items are:

  • Oil and oil filter change
  • Fuel filter change
  • Coolant flush
  • ATF (automatic transmission fluid) change
  • Transfer case and differential fluid changes.

Different generations of the Ford Powerstroke have different issues. Let your service advisors know what engine you have in your truck and they can begin to assist you in diagnosing the problem.

E4OD and 4R100 Transmission

The 7.3 Powerstroke can still be found on the road, and on the ranches and farms all across the nation. The first electronically controlled diesel engine installed for light-truck usage, this engine is still highly sought after 14 years after it’s demise.

Unfortunately like many other light-duty diesel trucks of that era, the automatic transmissions found in those trucks left a lot to be desired. The ½ ton trucks that those early transmissions were intended to serve were no match for the torque of the ¾ & 1 ton trucks that the 7.3 Powerstroke powered. Combine the added weight of the rig, the power of the engine and the owners using those diesels for their intended purposes, towing; many of those 4R100 and E4OD transmissions lived short lives.

Fortunately Lake City Auto Care can build your 4 speed 7.3 Powerstroke transmission, whether it be the early E4OD or the later 4R100 to keep pace with your towing needs and the power of the 7.3 Powerstroke, in either stock or modified form.

Here are some of the following improvements and updates we do to improve the E4OD and 4R100 when we rebuild them.

  • Upgrade Planetary Gears from 4 Aluminum to 6 Steel
  • Modify the Transmission Center Support for a Snap Ring for better alignment
  • Torque Converter Upgrade to Billet Front Cover
  • Enlarged Boost Valve for better accumulation (size varies depending on needs)
  • Alto Red Eagle Clutches
  • Kolene Steels
  • Triple Disc Torque Converter for High Performance and Severe-Duty Towing Applications
